A quick couple of photos. I had less than 24 hours to wash, block/dry, wrap and deliver.

I will miss seeing her everyday...

I hope that every time she wraps up in this she will know I am thinking about her.

Vintage crochet blanket...part 1

When I first taught myself to crochet, the one image that kept popping up was a black trimmed afghan

 with every color of the rainbow squares on a red sofa at my grandmother's house.  

I have wanted to make one for two years now.  So I thought the best time to start it 

was right in the middle of trying to finish up Christmas presents!!  I just couldn't wait any longer.

I gathered every scrap I had laying around.  Silk bamboo, acrylic, wool, cotton...didn't matter....
Good thing I was off for 2 weeks in December.  Making squares became my job!

I originally had planned on joining it all together with black, but when I saw "Charcoal"
 I decided that was the right one....

  Here is a glimpse of the first few squares that I had joined :

Here is the first 50.  All joined and ends woven in...

I am thinking it will need to be 500+ squares to fit on a full size bed.
 I am totally loving all the color play this is allowing.

My grandmother was an artist.  She worked with paint, clay, stained glass...just about any medium
 that you could possibly think of.  I never really got a chance to spend a lot of time with her.
  Unfortunately, she  passed away last February, but I think she would be happy with all this color.
 So in her memory, I am calling this blanket Ann

She started out as a way to use up more yarn than I had room for.  Literally, I had yarn in boxes sitting on top of everything!  It turned into a big, bright, beautiful blanket that has already been used for picnics and some "reading in the swing" time.

 

Love how soft and "drapey" this yarn works up...

 

 

  

I started working on it last October after my surgery. A quite, simple pattern to help in recovery. Once I was up and going again, I put it away for a few months.  Picked it back up in June and completed it in July

 

117 four round granny squares. I used Lucy's join-as-you-go method

I didn't keep up with the yarns I used, there were soooo many!! Different weights and types.  All leftovers from many other projects. 

I loved the border on this one. So many possibilities! I thought at first I would just do a plain solid border. But it just didn't go with the blanket. It needed to be big and busy just like the squares were

I borrowed several rows from all over blogland and combined them until I thought it looked finished.

 

 

 

 

   She lives in the living room, draped over a chair.

  I love walking by and catching a glimpse of her sitting there.

 

I am very happy with how she turned out. 
As usual, I think this is my new favorite!

I don't think I have ever been so happy with a completed project...

Now off to snuggle on the couch with my new blanket!

 

Annie's Blanket

For my friend Annie...on her 55th Birthday!

 

I loved making her this blanket!  

I didn't have to many color changes,

which means fewer end to sew in...that makes me VERY happy!

I love the white outline of each square.

small, but not too small.

a very simple edging...one row of single crochet, followed by a chain 4 skip one row...

don't know what that is called, but I like it.

A smallish blanket, perfect to throw in their camper and head out. Lightweight, soft.

 



I love the whole process of making a blanket for someone...picking out colors, deciding on patterns and needle sizes,  big squares or little squares, borders...knowing that this person will (hopefully) love it as much as I do.
